11-Year-Old Thanks 180,000 U.S. Soldiers with Personal Cards

According to an article on Top Secret Writers, 11-year-old Stephen Goodman, took the initiative to write 180,000 personal thank you cards and send it to the U.S. soldiers over in Iraq and Afghanistan, to show is appreciation for their service.

Stephen started giving his thanks 2 years ago when he began personally writing and hand-decorating every card. Eventually he recruited his family’s help and before they knew it they had completed 15,000 cards.

Stephen was sending out 2 different designs he made on his own. When his community caught wind of what he was doing, multiple crafting companies started donating toward his cause and helped with his design.

In 2010, Kodak joined the cause and helped Stephen create 2 distinct card templates,
and donated more than 100,000 copies of his cards to help. On December 16, 2011, Stephen and his family delivered 180,000 cards to Luke Air Force Base.

Stephen, a grandson of a Vietnam War veteran, learned from his grandfather of how poorly Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned to this country. Noting the support his grandfather never received following his Vietnam War service, Stephen stated he “wanted to make sure that every soldier serving our county today knows they are appreciated and never feels forgotten.”
