13 Factors Used to Estimate Your Life Expectancy

Long-term disability benefits
may be available if you have become disabled due to a severe physical or mental health condition. If you need help in applying for benefits or if you have been denied disability benefits, it may be necessary to seek legal counsel.

According to a report from the Star Telegram, a life insurance agency has developed a life expectancy calculator in order to help people to assess their risk of needing long-term disability benefits and what their lifestyle choices and family history will say about their life expectancy.

The 13-question quiz-dubbed the Longevity Game-was developed by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as an interactive way to motivate people to make lifestyle changes that would reduce the odds of premature death.

The online calculator takes some of the following information into consideration when determining a person's likelihood of needing long-term disability and estimating their life expectancy:

  • family medical history;
  • blood pressure;
  • age;
  • weight (BMI);
  • gender;
  • fitness level;
  • diet;
  • alcohol use;
  • your stress levels and reaction to stress;
  • drug use;
  • smoking;
  • seatbelt use; and
  • driving habits.

Though certainly not a substitute for a comprehensive physical evaluation by a medical professional, the quiz is meant to illustrate how genetics and personal choice affect a person's health in the short and long term.

If you have questions concerning your eligibility for long-term disability benefits, a Miami Gardens long-term disability attorney can help.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
