2010 Road To Recovery Conference A Success

December 28, 2010 - Walt Disney World was the site of the 6th annual Road to Recovery Conference between December 7 and December 11, 2010, which was presented by the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes and the American Legion. Over 120 people attended the conference, made up primarily of wounded soldiers and disabled veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) deployed representatives to provide both counseling at the conference as well as information about VA sponsored and operated programs.

The VA is working with veterans groups and private sector companies to help wounded soldiers and disabled veterans. The VA is putting particular emphasis on helping veterans with distinctive challenges, according to VA Sec. Eric Shinseki.

The counseling provided was one-on-one and personal. The information the VA provided focused on more than VA health care. The week consisted of over 40 hours of interactive environments ranging from seminars and workshops to panel discussions.

They included information on:

  • monetary benefits;
  • healthcare;
  • employment opportunities;
  • insurance; and
  • financial support.

For those soldiers and veterans interested, experts were in place to help with employment information. These experts offered advice on writing resumes and career counseling, among other helpful areas. The conference was a success and if it helped or improved the life of one soldier or veteran, it was worth everything that went into making it happen.
