December 9, 2010 - The 25th annual National Golden Age Games is the largest collection of sporting events across the nation solely for senior military veterans. This year's games will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii and will attract over 700 senior military veterans. The competition will be held between May 26, 2011 and May 31, 2011 and will be sponsored by:
Any military veteran aged 55 and over getting health care at any VA medical facility is eligible to compete in the games, essentially regardless of disability. The first year the games were held, 115 participants competed. Last year that number had grown to over 700 competitors. There will be a total of 14 events in which the senior veterans will be able to compete.
Hawaii was chosen because the Golden Age Games is celebrating their 25th anniversary. The amount of work that went into making Hawaii the site for the games was gladly undertaken by everyone involved because of the desire to make the anniversary games special for the competing veterans.
The Golden Age Games have a history of proving themselves therapeutic for competitors. Seniors coming out at the top of the games will qualify for the National Senior Olympic Games.
