Researchers indicate that just modest lifestyle changes could prevent up to 3 million cases of Alzheimer's worldwide. They also found the following risk factors to be linked to Alzheimer's including low education level, lack of physical activity, diabetes, and hypertension (mid-life).

In the United States, the following behaviors were linked to a certain percentage of cases of Alzheimer's:
 

  • diabetes - 3%;
  • low education - 7%;
  • obesity (mid-life) - 7%;
  • hypertension (mid-life) - 8%;
  • smoking - 11%;
  • depression - 15%; and
  • lack of exercise - 21%.
