A Community Rallies to Help a Disabled Veteran in Need

An article in The Voice of OC highlighted how several members of a community came to the aid of a veteran with disabilities who was on the verge of losing his house.

Daniel Foster was wounded while serving in the U.S. Army; however, he couldn't get the VA to deliver his benefits on time,
and his bank was going to foreclose on his house. When his community heard of the news, they came out in force to help Foster in any way they could.

Foster, who lives with his father, Rex, who's also disabled, was threatened of foreclosure by bank lenders because Daniel was $12,000 delinquent in his mortgage payments. Payments he couldn't make without his VA approved benefits.

To rectify the situation, an anonymous donor wrote a check for $12,000 to bring Daniel current. Some community members wrote checks ranging from $10 to $500 to help Daniel and his father. All the money went into a trust account, and one local has started helping Daniel deal with the VA and fight for Daniel's benefits.

Other community members volunteered services
such as a dentist who volunteered to help Daniel with necessary corrective surgeries to repair damage to Daniel's bones and teeth from shrapnel.

Apparently Daniel's benefit application ended up in the wrong office, without an explanation from the VA. Daniel first applied for veterans disability benefits over 12 months ago, and they're still "being processed."
