If you have received the diagnosis of
Alzheimer's and you are no longer able to continue working, you may qualify to receive Social Security disability benefits.
In a report from
CNN Health,
a popular Alzheimer's drug has been found to not be helpful to individuals who are in the early stages of the disease.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Memantine, also known as Namenda, for those patients who have moderate to severe cases of Alzheimer's. However, many doctors have also prescribed it for those patients with mild cases.
While researchers indicate that the drug isn't harmful, it may not be particularly helpful to those who are in the earlier stages of Alzheimer's. It is found to only be slightly more helpful for those in the moderate stages. Researchers also point out that its effect may vary from patient to patient, so it doesn't have to necessarily be ruled out.
Even in the early stages, Alzheimer's can become a debilitating disease, often making daily tasks a challenge with the experience of short-term and sometimes long-term memory loss.
