An accident on I-95 South left one person dead, and four seriously injured last night.
According to reports by local newspapers, the accident on 95 occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Monday night when a Cadillac Escalade sideswiped two cars and then sped off and struck a Ford Expedition positioned in the emergency lane. Witnesses to the accident said that both the Cadillac Escalade and the Ford Expedition burst into flames and the driver of the Expedition was killed. Due to the severity of the fire, identification of the driver may require dental records.
Four people were injured in addition to the driver who was killed in the 95-S accident. All were transported to Memorial Regional, with the most severe accident victim being airlifted to the hospital.
According to the Sun Sentinel, several drivers stopped and tried to rescue victims but had difficulty doing so due to the intensity of the flames from the fiery crash.
The accident occurred on 95's southbound lanes near the Pembroke Road exit. Florida Highway Patrol closed the highway until almost 10:30p.m. following the crash. The highway was reopened near the Hallandale exit.
Two victims were in critical condition Monday night, and two others were listed in "serious condition."
Our heart goes out to all the injured victims in this tragic accident. We hope and pray that they all recover fully from their injuries.
