Actor Gary Sinise, who brought life to the iconic
disabled veteran in the move Forrest Gump, has become a celebrity in the world of disabled veterans’ advocacy.
Sinise’s latest effort is seeking to help construct a “smart home” for Cpl. Juan Dominguez, a triple-amputee disabled veteran.
Supporting the effort spearheaded by Sinise is Frank Siller, the founder of “Building for America’s Bravest.” The pair of
advocates spoke at the Temecula City Council meeting on January 10, where Sinise asked them to consider co-sponsoring a benefit concert to raise funds for the smart home project. Sinise’s own veteran-inspired band, The Lt. Dan Band, will headline for the concert which was approved unanimously by council vote and take place in the town square.
Sinise has been involved in disabled veterans advocacy long before his role as Lt. Dan, but has only increased his dedication since then.
He comes from a family of veterans and uses his band as a means of raising awareness and financial support to disabled veteran support organizations, such as Building for America’s Bravest.
It takes the efforts of many people, civilians, and veterans alike, to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by our disabled veterans every day.
The more individuals who lend their support to local causes and those who serve disabled veterans, the more we can do for those who have sacrificed for our country.
