A former Army surgeon and Westpoint graduate resigned from his teaching position at Washington University in St. Louis after an investigation revealed that he had falsified the results of a study on a bone growth product used on veterans at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
According to the New York Times, Dr. Timothy Kuklo was placed on leave from Washington University earlier this year after Army officials reported their findings to the school. Kuklo had been working as a consultant for Medtronic, the maker of the bone growth product he studied, and was paid more than $800,000 from the company in the last few years.
In addition to reporting inflated benefits from the Medtronic product, Kuklo also forged the signatures of four co-authors on the study, according to the Army's investigation.
