Balloon Pump for Angioplasty Doesn’t Reduce Heart Attack Damage

According to a report in Health Day, a balloon pump inserted before angioplasty is found to not reduce the amount of damage from a heart attack. If you are no longer able to work as a result of a severe medical condition, then Social Security disability benefits can help offset your lost income.

Heart attack patients sometimes undergo angioplasty, a surgery that helps to clear blocked blood vessels. In order to help increase blood flow to the heart, a balloon pump is sometimes inserted.

Previous studies in animals found that doing this helped to reduce the damage caused by a heart attack; however, researchers from Duke University Medical Center find that it doesn't do the same for humans.

Additionally, inserting the balloon pump could actually cause additional complications such as bleeding and vascular problems. Doctors need to be aware of the risk factors and determine which patients would truly benefit from a balloon pump.

When you are no longer able to work or function on a daily basis as a result of a severe medical condition, you should consult with a Miami Gardens disability lawyer to learn what your rights are. You could be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.
