Blood Clot Risk Reduced by Less Invasive Colon Surgery

According to a report from the Doctor's Lounge, researchers from the University of California, Irvine, report that the risk of blood clots is reduced by less invasive colon surgery. If you were diagnosed with colon cancer or any other type of cancer and you are permanently disabled, then you may qualify to receive Social Security disability benefits.

Patients who undergo colorectal surgery run a 25% risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE),
deep vein blood clots. These can break off and travel to the lungs, which could be deadly.

However, patients who undergo a minimally invasive surgery, such as laparoscopic surgery, have not only a faster recovery time and less scarring but a decreased risk of VTE.

Yet this doesn't mean it is the most beneficial type of treatment for patients. Both types of surgery still had risks for blood clots if the patient had other serious health conditions such as congestive heart failure, obesity, and cancer.

To learn if you qualify for Social Security disability benefits, you should immediately seek legal counsel. A Plantation Social Security disability lawyer can examine the details of your medical records and determine if you meet the criteria for benefits. A lawyer can also help if you would like to appeal a claim that has been denied.
