Breast Cancer Death Could Be Increased in Smokers

When a diagnosis, such as breast cancer, causes an individual to become permanently disabled and unable to work they may qualify for Social Security disability benefits.

New research shows that the incidence of breast cancer death could be increased in individuals who also smoke, in comparison to those who are non-smokers. In fact, smokers with breast cancer are found to have a 39% higher risk of dying.

These new findings will be presented at the annual American Association for Cancer Research in Philadelphia this month.

While previous studies on this were not conclusive, this latest one demonstrated more evidence after a study of more than 2,000 women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Of all the women who had been included in the study, 164 of them died from breast cancer and an additional 120 women died from other causes.

This is important to note since not only were smokers found to be at an increased risk of death from breast cancer but they were also at an increased risk of dying from other causes.

Researchers can't explain the link but believe it is something that women should take into consideration.
