Breast Cancer Risk Calculator Has Been Updated for Asian-American Women

After you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and a treatment plan has been put in place, you may find it necessary to stop working for a lengthy period of time. Long-term disability benefits may be available to you.

The National Institutes of Health News reports that the breast cancer calculator has been updated for Asian-American women. This is good news since currently risk estimates are derived from Caucasian women.

The updated breast cancer calculator, AABCS model, is specific to those of Japanese, Chinese, Hawaiian, Filipino, other Pacific Islander or other Asian descent.

The model, Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool (BCRAT), was developed by scientists at the National Cancer Institute and is used to help determine the risk of aggressive breast cancer. Based on the results, this serves as a guide for eligibility of breast cancer prevention trials.

Originally BRCAT was used on Caucasian women but then a new model was developed, the CARE model, which can estimate breast cancer risk for African-American women. This newest breast cancer risk calculator is yet another step in the direction of tailoring treatment plans to the patient.

If you have questions regarding your eligibility for long-term disability benefits or what steps you need to take in order to appeal a claim that has been denied, you should speak with a Miami-Dade County long-term disability attorney.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S! Contact a South Florida disability attorney today - 1-888-234-5758.
