Budget Cuts Anger the Disabled in Massachusetts

One of the only pieces of news that many people on Social Security disability would hate to hear right now is the threat of even slower processing times. Less support from SSA overall would be an additional blow. Unfortunately, some disabled people in Boston are about to have their nightmare come true.

Considering that the SSA is already backed up due to increased applications, this is not considered a step in the right direction.

These fears have come about because, according to the Boston Herald, the governor is thinking about cutting the hours of employees at Massachusetts Disability Determination Services. Since this organization handles disability applications for the area, this news is not good for those considering applying soon. Their wait could stretch even longer than the current one, which is considered unacceptable by many.

Most who apply for disability benefits need the money as soon as possible. Possibly they recently lost a job, or maybe lost other government benefits and are disabled. Either way, most people do not apply with a year's supply of cash on hand. Slowing down the processing times will only serve to inconvenience and frustrate many, and considering the number of people now applying, many believe this is not the best way to go when dealing with budget cuts.
