Calcium Test May Detect Risk of Heart Attack or Stroke

In a report from the Doctor's Lounge, a calcium test may be able to detect the risk of heart attack or stroke. Both of these health conditions could lead to an individual being out of work for several months. If you're unable to continue working, then you could qualify for long-term disability benefits.

Researchers have found a way to use a calcium test, alongside a CT scanner, to detect serious cardiovascular problems, in patients who have moderate heart problems. This could help doctors to determine if treatment, such as a drug that lowers cholesterol, would be beneficial.

The focus is on those patients who aren't of high risk, but that fall in the middle. Many of them have some risk factors for a heart attack or stroke such as having elevated levels of blood sugar or being overweight. Although they may not be considered to be at a severe risk of suffering a life-threatening or fatal cardiovascular event, the potential is still there.

Doctors can also weigh the options, as to whether or not the side effects associated with cholesterol-lowering drugs is worth it. Having insight into a patient's risk for stroke or heart attack can help make that decision.

If you've been diagnosed with a serious health condition that is keeping you out of work, then you should speak with a Miami-Dade County long-term disability lawyer about your options.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
