Calculate Your Risk of Suffering a Disability

Social Security disability benefits
may be available if your medical condition falls under the Social Security Administration's (SSA) listing of impairments and meets their stringent criteria.

According to a report from Disabled World, a new website is keeping track of the number of working adults with disabling illnesses and injuries that last for at least 30 days. It is called CDA's Disability Counter and it was developed by the Council for Disability Awareness (CDA).

What this website offers is a reality check to younger working Americans who don't think about the possibility of becoming disabled. This leads to either poor planning or no planning in the event they do.

The SSA reports that before reaching the age of 67 years old, 1 in 4 of current 20-year-old workers will become disabled.
Yet many 20-year-olds don't believe it could happen to them.

The hope is that more Americans will become aware of the likelihood of suffering a disabling illness or injury and then take steps to financially protect themselves. This means acquiring private long-term disability insurance. However, according to SSA, 67% of working adults don't carry this type of insurance.

The website invites individuals to complete their Personal Disability Quotient (PDQ) in order to estimate their risk of becoming disabled and the potential future income they could be losing out on.
Additionally, you can take a Disability Awareness Quiz and get tips on how to lower your chance of suffering a disability.

If you have become disabled and are one of the many Americans who doesn't have a financial backup plan, it is imperative that you seek the help of a Hallandale Social Security disability attorney for any questions on Social Security disability benefits.
