Diabetes can be accompanied by additional medical impairments that may result in the need for long-term disability benefits.
In a report from
U.S. Health News, a study was released by
Diabetes Care that reveals beverages which can increase a person's risk of having
diabetes.
Those who drink sugary drinks on a daily basis-whether it's soda, Vitamin Water, sweetened tea or an energy drink-
increase their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more than 25%, in comparison to those who drink just 1 sugary drink a month.
Additionally, it was also found to increase the rate of metabolic syndrome by 20%. These are indicators of high levels of triglycerides, which is a precursor to diabetes.
While previous studies have shown that sugary beverages can lead to weight gain, this latest study directly links sugary drinks to the risk of diabetes. This is because insulin and blood glucose spike when these types of beverages are consumed in large amounts.
The spiking can then result in inflammation, hypertension and insulin resistance, all of which are factors leading to diabetes. It was also found that those
beverages that contain high-fructose corn syrup produce more belly fat, which can lead to cardiovascular problems including high blood pressure.
