Cancer Survivors Become Victims of High Medical Costs

According to a report from the Doctor's Lounge, researchers from Penn State indicate that cancer survivors often become victims of high medical costs, which can leave them financially devastated. Cancer treatment can leave cancer patients disabled from work, which may grant eligibility for long-term disability benefits.

Thanks to advancements in the medical and science field, cancer treatments have allowed for an increased rate of successful outcomes; however, it has come with very high medical costs.

On average, cancer survivors pay as much as $5,000 more per year for medical care
in comparison to individuals who have never dealt with cancer. Another downfall is that they're also more likely to suffer additional medical complications later on.

This can lead to further medical costs which include prescription medications. Researchers found that these additional medical costs average about $9,300 every year.

So while there have been efforts to help cancer patients survive longer, it seems there also needs to be efforts to help them combat the high medical costs they're left with.

If you have questions concerning eligibility for long-term disability benefits or if your claim was denied, then your next step should be to seek legal counsel. A Miami long-term disability attorney is available to help.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
