February 8, 2011 - There are 15 acres of land on Corbett Road and Diplomat Parkway, across from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Clinic in Cape Coral, Florida that will serve as the land upon which the new U.S. Army Reserve Center will be built. Cape Coral's Economic Development Office announced the new build last week, stating that the Army has not purchased the land yet, but announced the proceedings were "in the paper work" phase.
For 2 units presently stationed at North Fort Myers, the move cannot happen soon enough. Those units, one a reserve unit and one a military police unit, have been relocated to a provisional building located on Santa Barbara Boulevard. Both units will live in the "McGarvey developments" until the Reserve Center is constructed. The final Cape Coral Army Reserve Center will include:
The entire facility should be completed within 3 years, even though no specific time frame has been established. The Reserve Center will serve as one of the final pieces of the puzzle that make up the "Veterans Investment Zone," which is the name for all the land around the already established VA clinic.
