Celebrate Veterans Day 2011 in Florida With a Charity Poker Tournament!

November 10, 2011 - Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -
Tomorrow is Veterans Day 2011 and aside from the great national events and specials going on across the country, there are many local gatherings being held to honor and support our veterans.

If you're looking for a great event for Veterans Day in South Florida, we've found a 2-day celebration that not only honors our veterans but also raises money for a non-profit cause.

Care for Disabled Veterans is a non-profit organization in Ft. Lauderdale that seeks to provide services and resources to disabled veterans and their families when they are seeking VA benefits for disability.

On Friday, November 11 Care for Disabled Veterans will be hosting a Veterans Appreciation Dinner to celebrate Veterans Day in Ft. Lauderdale. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the historic Dania Jai-Alai facility in Dania Beach, FL. The dinner is open to the first 1,000 veterans who may bring up to 2 guests.

You can register for the dinner up until noon Friday by sending an email to dinner@careforvets.org with the following details:

  • name;
  • mailing address;
  • contact phone number;
  • the branch of military you served in; and
  • number of guests (please indicate if any are younger than 13 years, limit 2 guests per veteran).

Act fast - you will get a confirmation email with your seat reservation if you submit before noon tomorrow! You will need a photo ID to be admitted to the dinner.

The Veterans Day events don't end there! At 6 p.m. Saturday, November 12 Care for Disabled Veterans will honor our troops in another way - a charity poker tournament! Registration for the tournament can be done online at a discounted rate or from 4-5 p.m. at the venue.

You may register online for the discounted rate of $100 by clicking the secure online registration form on the event page. Payment is accepted by all major credit cards and you will receive email confirmation of your completed registration. You must act fast to take advantage of the discount - online registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 11!

If you have questions about online registration, you can use the Care for Disabled Veterans online contact form, or for immediate assistance call 1-877-617-2170 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. If you miss online registration, you can still register at the door for $125.

When the event begins at 5 p.m. it will be more than just Texas Hold ‘Em! This evening will feature a silent auction, Spin-A-Wheel prize giveaways, raffle, and live Jai-Alai games. First prize for the poker tournament is $10,000 (with a minimum of 200 players) and features unlimited rebuys through the first 6 levels. There will also be bounty spiffs with 32 giveaways so there are plenty of opportunities to win big all night!

Dania Jai-Alai has graciously opened their facility to host this event and there's plenty of free parking on site. This is primarily a non-smoking venue with designated smoking areas available. There will be a cash bar on site and restaurant, as well as simulcasting of the racing events taking place.

All proceeds from the Veterans Day 2011 Charity Poker Tournament will go to support Care for Disabled Veterans. Take the time to celebrate Veterans Day in South Florida and honor our brave troops!
