Chronic Hepatitis B Is Leading Cause of Liver Cancer

As hepatitis B is the leading cause of liver cancer, awareness of chronic hepatitis B is being raised.
Liver cancer is a serious disease that can cause an individual to be unable to work and in need of Social Security disability benefits.

The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations, the Hepatitis B Foundation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Office of Minority Health are teaming up to launch a national campaign that raises greater awareness of the dangers of hepatitis B.

Specifically, this campaign is targeting Asian-Americans who represent more than half of the approximately 2 million people in the United States diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B.

Chronic hepatitis B is caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is known as the silent killer since it can destroy the liver slowly without presenting obvious symptoms.

The message that will be sent out in this national campaign is that Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent need to get tested for HBV. Early detection can make a difference in the outcome of this disease.

If you have been diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B, liver cancer or any other serious medical condition and your condition makes it impossible for you to be able to work, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits. You should contact a Social Security disability lawyer who can help determine eligibility.
