Chronic Use of Tylenol May Raise Risk of Certain Blood Cancers

Cancer can lead to disabling medical conditions that prevent an individual from continuing to work. This may lead to the need for Social Security disability benefits.

In a report from the Doctor's Lounge, chronic use of Tylenol may raise the risk of certain blood cancers, such as plasma cell disorders, non-Hodgkin lymphomas and myeloid neoplasms.

Researchers from the University of Washington say that chronic use of Tylenol, taken several days a week for several years, makes the risk twice as likely of developing certain types of blood cancer. Their study focused on patients who had been taking Tylenol 4 days a week for at least 4 years.

Other types of blood cancers like chronic/small lymphocytic leukemia were not found to have an increased risk with the use of Tylenol, nor was there an increased risk for these types of blood cancers with the frequent use of acetaminophens.

However, the study did not address why the risk is increased, so further studies will need to be done.

If you are suffering from a disabling condition and you are no longer able to work, you should consult with a Miami Beach Social Security disability attorney to see if you are eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.
