Colon Cancer Death Risk Increased with Obesity

A new study shows that women who are obese and are diagnosed with colon cancer may have a higher risk of death.
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. It can also lead an individual to seek Social Security disability benefits if they are unable to work because of their condition and treatment.

The American Cancer Society believes that more than 51,000 people will die this year from colon cancer.
Women who are past menopause and are obese face a greater chance of cancer death. When compared to women who are at a healthy weight or even just in the category of being overweight, obesity is a triggering factor for death.

Researchers also believe that once a woman has been diagnosed with colon cancer, it may be too late to lose a significant amount of weight. They believe that the damage has already been done.

The study also revealed that body shape may play an important role, with women who have a larger waist-and a specific waist-to-hip ratio-being at a greater risk of death.

If you have been diagnosed with colon cancer or any other debilitating mental or physical condition, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits. An experienced Social Security disability lawyer can help determine if you are eligible.
