Common Painkillers May Lessen the Effectiveness of Antidepressants

Even if you have coverage, sometimes long-term disability benefits are denied. This is why you may need the help of an Atlanta long-term disability attorney.

The Doctor's Lounge reports that antidepressants, taken for depression and other types of mental disorders, may be less effective when also taken with common painkillers such as ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin.

The study comes from the Rockefeller University in New York City and suggests that interactions between SSRIs-brands such as Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil-and over-the-counter pain medications could cause ineffectiveness in the SSRIs.

Researchers are still left with questions such as how this negative interaction could be affected by the amount of time on the medications and the dosage patients are prescribed. Therefore further studies will be necessary.

The findings of this study were recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Apr. 25 online edition.

Whether you need help with applying for long-term disability benefits or if you have been denied benefits and wish to appeal your claim, you should consult with an Atlanta long-term disability attorney. An attorney can help determine if you qualify to receive long-term disability benefits and assist you with the process of filing your claim or appealing a denied claim.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
