Congress Bill Will Cut Funding for Prostate Cancer Research

After you've been diagnosed with a severe condition, your next concern may be how you're going to financially care for your family while you're unable to work. If treatment and recovery of a medical condition has resulted in disability, then you may qualify to receive long-term disability benefits.

Disabled World
reports that Congress plans to pass a bill that will cut funding for prostate cancer research. So far the House Appropriations Committee has approved a bill providing $64 million for prostate cancer research, a 20% cut when compared to the $80 million that has been received every year since 2006.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer and most deadly for men to get in the U.S. As men age, their risk for developing prostate cancer rises.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the most recent statistics show that in 2007 there were 223,307 men diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 29,000 deaths occurred from prostate cancer.

If you've been diagnosed with prostate cancer, or any other severe condition, and are undergoing treatments making you unable to work, then you should seek legal counsel. A Fort Lauderdale long-term disability attorney can help with the filing of your paperwork or answer any questions you have on eligibility.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
