Dayton VA Dentist Denies Claims of Malpractice

Dr. Dwight Pemberton may be the dentist named in the potential contamination problems at the Dayton, Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) dental clinic. Dr. Pemberton was accused of not changing his gloves between patients and failing to sterilize instruments. Dr. Pemberton has responded to the claims and calls them insulting.

Dr. Pemberton denied every allegation his co-workers made against him. He went on to say although he was named in the allegations, the people making the allegations were targeting his boss.

Whether Pemberton is the dentist named in the allegations regarding the potential contamination and failure to follow sanitation guidelines, the VA cannot verify. Pemberton, however, did accuse the VA of ignoring testimony from employees who would have spoken in his favor during the investigation.

He also provided copies of his evaluations while a dentist rating him as "outstanding." Further, he points to a 2009 evaluation in which he was classified as a "respected and valued member" of the Dayton VA dental team.

Pemberton also accused the VA of only using testimony of certain employees, some of whom had no ability to support the statements they made to investigators. The VA has since offered free testing for Pemberton's patients.

Three of those patients returned positive test results for new cases of liver disease. Pemberton, however, does not suffer from the liver disease found in those tests.
