Death from Advanced Lung Cancer May Be Delayed with New Therapy

In a report from Yahoo, the survival rate of patients with advanced lung cancer may be increased with a new type of therapy, known as epigenetic therapy. When a medical condition is severe and expected to be terminal, then Social Security disability benefits may be available.

Treatment for advanced lung cancer currently doesn't exist; however, epigenetic therapy is showing some potential for those patients with solid tumors. With a trial involving 45 patients, there was some success.

One patient had a partial response to the therapy, 2 patients had a complete response and another patient is still alive, after 4 years of undergoing this new therapy. While researchers recognize that the success rate is not very major, it still presents possibilities for better outcomes with further testing.

The other good news from this study was that the side effects were less than commonly experienced after chemotherapy; however, the findings are considered to be preliminary.
