Death Rates Improving for Those with Hypertension

According to a report from Health Day, new research shows that death rates are improving for those who have hypertension. This improvement has been significant since the 70s; however, the risk of death is still higher in comparison to those who have normal blood pressure.

Death rates for those with hypertension have dropped from 18.8 per 1,000 persons, to 14.3 per 1,000 persons. While this is good news, it doesn't take away from the fact that those with hypertension have a 57% higher chance of premature death when compared to individuals with healthy blood pressure.

The research also found that those with hypertension have an increased risk of developing diabetes. This is besides the risks of developing heart disease or suffering a stroke.

Maintaining normal blood pressure is very important to health and could significantly impact the quality of life for an individual.
