Delayed Benefits Affecting Thousands of Veterans

Considering the amount of backlogged benefit delays, the lives of thousands of veterans with disabilities may be on the line. Many veterans are finding ways to cope, but some aren't. If you're a veteran in serious need of your disability benefits, meet with a South Florida disability attorney.

The Fay Observer
recently reported how many veterans are in need of those benefits and are becoming increasingly frustrated at the entire veterans' disability compensation system. For many veterans with such potentially debilitating problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder, their wait for benefits could take years.

Many veterans wake up every day and have to fight to stay alive while suffering a debilitating condition. For some, that existence becomes merely impossible leading to other emotional problems such as abusing drugs and alcohol, or suicide.

It's unrealistic to expect bureaucracy within an agency the size of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) not to exist. It's also not realistic to believe every claim filed was filled out exactly as it's supposed to be filled out, which tends to cause delays as well.

There does come a point, however, where the red tape is just too much. The Fayetteville VA, in North Carolina, alone had at least 6,000 disability benefit claims in its backlog in the beginning of the year. Although that number has been cut down significantly, it took a while to get to that point in the first place.

If you are a disabled veteran who has been denied disability compensation or have not yet applied for benefits from the VA, a South Florida disability attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg is ready to help.
