Dell to Help VA Build New Network

A new contract will have Dell Computers supplying the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a new line of computers. This comes as the VA and the Department of Defense (DoD) prepare to launch their electronic health records (EHRs), and the VA attempts to upgrade the security and functionality of their entire network.

The contract is worth $476 million over 4 years. Dell will provide not only computers, but services and other technology for more than 1,200 VA locations across the country. The VA will gain about 6,000 computers for their facilities.

Dell has been providing the Army with computers and  technology for the past 3 years under a previous contract, so they are in a prime position to understand the VA's needs. This new contract will put Dell in the position to assist the VA as it completely changes and revamps its end-user computing environment.

Dell products and services will not only be helping the VA improve access, manageability, and security for the network - with Dell's help, the VA's network will also improve its "flexibility and mobility" so VA employees can have an easier time with the network. The organization itself will improve with the new Dell services.

Many service-disabled, veteran-owned small businesses will aid in the implementation of the new contract. Their services will be required in order to support the different sites and varying technological services.
