Department of Defense Awards Reeve Foundation $5.4 Million

The Department of Defense has awarded $5.4 million to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, which for years has been a source of support for those suffering with spinal cord injuries. Some patients who have severe spinal cord injuries may be eligible for Social Security disability benefits.

The $5.4 million grant was awarded to the foundation in order to help men and women from the United States military who are suffering with spinal cord injuries. The goal is to assist these men and women-and all sufferers of spinal cord injuries-to receive more effective treatment of their injuries.

The benefits of the grant will extend beyond military men and women, as the money will fund high-quality trials that may help to produce viable therapies for all individuals who have spinal cord injuries.

The grant money will go to the Reeve Foundation's international network of hospitals known as the North American Clinical Trials Network (NACTN).  NACTN has been already been gathering data and medical information on spinal cord injury patients. New trials have been conducted to help find the best therapy for patients with spinal cord injuries.

The grant money will help the NACTN to expand its studies and treatments as they work to advance the work being done to treat those with spinal cord injuries.

If you have received a spinal cord injury or suffer from another debilitating condition, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits. Contact a Social Security disability attorney who can help determine if you are eligible.
