According to an article in Federal Computer Week, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) unveiled its own online job board, which can help reduce the unemployment rate for veterans with disability and veterans without disability alike.
The VA's job board is planned to provide information on jobs available within the VA itself, so it is not in direct competition with other federal job boards. This job board is part of VA for Vets, which is the VA's new "career support program," according to VA Sec. Eric Shinseki. The VA job board will not only feature the ability to search online for a VA job, but it is intended to also provide:
The military skills translation agent can help veterans find jobs within the VA matching the skills they learned while in the military. Veterans can enter their military service, their position in the military and how much they earned, in order to see what jobs are available considering their skill level.
There are over 3,500 jobs with the VA currently listed on the board. Whether that level of offered jobs can be maintained remains to be seen, but for now it is a step in the right direction in "hiring and retraining veteran employees," according to Sec. Shinseki.
