While previous studies have indicated a possible risk factor of
colon cancer for individuals who suffer from type 2 diabetes, a new study reveals that diabetes may be linked to colon cancer for men in particular. Cancer can be very difficult to treat and result in an individual being unable to work. Social Security disability benefits may be awarded to qualified individuals.
This new research also indicates that the link between colon cancer and type 2 diabetes amongst women may not be as prevalent as once thought.
For men it was discovered they were 24% more likely to develop colon cancer if they were diabetics, compared to those who are not. Men were at a 36% risk of developing colon cancer if they used insulin.
While researchers are not sure why the link may exist, some surmise that diabetes can elevate hormones related to insulin which can lead to the growth and spreading of cells, including cells that are cancerous.
Further research into the possible link between type 2 diabetes and colon cancer will continue, along with a focused study on gender.
Whether you are suffering from medical conditions related to type 2 diabetes or cancer, such as colon cancer, any type of severe health problem could result in permanent disability. A
Social Security disability lawyer can help you determine whether you may qualify to receive these disability benefits.
When you are interviewing
Social Security Disability attorneys ask critical questions, like: how many Social Security Disability hearings do you have per month; do you understand the SSA's POMS (the manual Social Security employees use to process claims); and, do you understand the date last insured and how it affects my disability onset date?
