One woman was recently helped by a charity that regularly assists low-income individuals, most of whom receive some benefits from the SSA. According to TimesRecordNews in Texas, a 48-year-old woman just lost her husband to cancer, leaving her with a young daughter to care for.
She receives disability benefits and has a part-time job, but she has no life insurance or extra money, which means that she could not afford to pay for her husband's funeral. Additionally, some of her utility bills were late enough to cause disconnections, such as her electricity.
The good news is that she reached out to a local charity, called Faith Mission. The caseworkers looked at her income, and circumstances, and were able to offer her nearly $400 to pay for her electricity. The Texas charity accepts donations from people who want to help those in need.
Each case is reviewed before any money is offered. Receiving money from a program like disability is not necessarily required, but many people who are helped by this charity do in fact get money from the SSA. It is often easier to prove that you need money when you show that you are disabled or elderly. Often, once one program accepts you to receive money, it is easier for other programs to quickly accept you as well.
If you are tired of missing out on programs that help low-income or disabled people, such as this one, consider talking to a lawyer to make sure that your application for disability or SSI is complete. Having proof of this type of assistance can open the doors to benefits from other agencies.
