Divorced Survivors’ Benefits

Divorced survivors of SSD-insured claimants can access funding upon the disabled worker's death when certain criteria are met. Rather than receive SSDI payments, they are eligible for Social Security survivors' benefits.

Some of the Social Security Administration (SSA) requirements of divorced survivors include:

• An age of 60 or older, or
  
• An age of 50 to 59, if you are disabled, or
  
• Any age and caring for the deceased person's child who is disabled and less than 16 years old
  
  

The first two classes of divorced survivors must have been married to the insured for at least 10 years.
