The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is reaching out to those veterans trying to land a federal job. In fact, the DLA offers multiple approaches veterans can use to continue their service to this country.
Of the more than 8,700 veterans the DLA employs as part of their civilian employees, more than 1,300 of them were hired last year.
The DLA's Human Capital Program Development Branch celebrates veterans' experiences, which is why veterans are such attractive potential hires to DLA human resources.
Many veterans have unique experiences, which make them perfect candidates for many DLA positions. The DLA's distinctive mission and the veterans' ability to easily assimilate to the DLA's training program makes them a good match. Because of this, there is more than one way for veterans to become DLA employees.
There is always the typical hiring scenario, which was established by the federal government.
The DLA also uses internship programs tailored to bringing veterans into the fold. Operation Warfighter is one such program which affords wounded soldiers experience working for the federal government while they convalesce. Soldiers can take part in this program even if they do not plan on separating from the military in the near future.
There are numerous non-paid programs available veterans can use to get their feet into the DLA's proverbial door, some of which are offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The DLA is a Department of Defense (DoD) support agency, so it is not hard to see why veterans usually make good DLA employees.
