Don't Let Late Forms Prevent Your Disability Payments

You have likely heard of the high number of applicants who are denied Social Security disability benefits on the first try. While the SSA certainly does make mistakes and is overworked right now, sometimes the fault lies with the applicant, particularly when it comes to signing and returning important documents.

Fortunately, you can easily avoid such issues that delay your case by responding immediately to documents sent to you. Having a Social Security Disability lawyer can help you keep track of such documents if you are having trouble doing so on your own. Getting denied simply because you did not meet a deadline to sign a piece of paper should never occur.

Having an idea of the types of documents that may be sent to you can help you stay on track. For example, Disability Determination Services will send you a form that will tell you when your medical examination is scheduled. You will see the date, time, and location of the exam, in addition to the name of the doctor. Your responsibility is to note this information and, in many cases, return a form that acknowledges that you got the memo.

Another form you should expect will come from the Office of Hearings and Appeals. It will tell you that you have a hearing with a judge, and like the medical forms, will give you contact information and the name of the administrative law judge. You will need to send back the form that says you are aware of the appointment and will be there.

Filling out such forms should be quite simple. If you have any questions about a form, just contact your lawyer before you fill it out and send it off. There is no reason to ruin your possibility to get Social Security disability benefits just because you did not understand a form or forgot to send it back on time. Let your lawyer help keep you as organized as possible during this process.
