Drug Treatment May Be Safer than Bypass Surgery after a Mini Stroke

According to a report in Medline Plus, drug treatment may be safer after a mini stroke rather than bypass surgery. When a stroke or any other severe medical condition causes an individual to be out of work for several months, long-term disability benefits could be available.

Patients, who have developed a blocked neck artery, experiencing what is known as a mini stroke, would benefit from a safer method of treatment, according to researchers. Drug treatment is not only as effective as bypass surgery, it is also found to come with fewer risks.

Whether the treatment is bypass surgery or medication, the goal is to prevent the patient from experiencing a serious stroke. Although, results from a study indicate that those who underwent surgery had a 14% chance of suffering a stroke, compared to the risk only being 2% for those who had drug treatment.

At the same time, researchers continued to look into other ways to treat a blocked neck artery, including using a catheter stent. There are also other types of therapies that need to be tested as well.

When a stroke or some other severe type of medical condition strikes, it can leave an individual impaired for several months. Speak to a Fort Lauderdale long-term disability lawyer to learn if you qualify for disability benefits.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.
