Early Trials Show Promise for a Potentially Safer Heart Failure Drug

According to a report in Health Day, early trials are showing promise for a potentially safer heart failure drug. Heart failure could lead to an extensive amount of time off from work. This could qualify you to receive long-term disability benefits.

Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, affects about 5.7 million people in the U.S., and about 300,000 of them die every year from it, reported from the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

It is a result of the heart not being strong enough to adequately pump blood throughout the body. Unfortunately, there is no cure for heart failure; however, treatment can help to improve an individual's quality of life and lengthen their life span.

While treatments are already available, with most posing serious side effect risks, a new drug, omecamtiv mecarbil, has been shown to potentially improve heart function and reduce debilitating symptoms such as shortness of breath and fatigue. It may be safer with lesser side effects but the drug is still in its earliest stages so more testing will be necessary.

You should consult with a South Florida long-term disability attorney if you have questions concerning eligibility for disability benefits. A lawyer can also assist you if your claim has been denied and you wish to appeal it.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
