Employer Costs Rise as the Health of U.S. Workers Declines

According to a report from Reuters, employer costs are going up as the health of U.S. workers declines. When a severe health condition interferes with your ability to work, then long-term disability benefits may be available.

The Thomson Reuters Workforce Wellness Index tracks the health of working Americans and the impact upon health insurance provided by employers. It also looks at the costs to treat these health problems.

The overall health of working Americans is determined by 6 behavioral risk factors including:

  • alcohol use;
  • BMI (body mass index);
  • smoking;
  • blood pressure;
  • blood glucose levels; and
  • cholesterol

In 2010, costs for healthcare were found to be mostly related to the BMI, which measures the level of obesity. The second most contributing factor was elevated blood glucose levels.

These are risk factors that can be changed, however. As greater awareness is being raised, the hope is that eventually the health of working Americans will begin to improve, leading to lower healthcare costs.

You may need to speak to a Georgia long-term disability lawyer if you have concerns with your eligibility for disability benefits. If you have been denied benefits that you believe you are entitled to, your lawyer can help with this as well.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S! Contact a Georgia long-term disability lawyer today - 1-888-234-5758.
