Families of War Veterans Find Closure with POW/MIA Legislation

According to an article on WNCT, a new legislation may help military families, who have not formally gotten to say good-bye to their beloved war veterans, finally have some closure.

Rolling Thunder is a volunteer group working to “keep the memory of the missing alive.” Generally speaking, if a soldier goes to war and is killed, his or her body is returned home, which gives closure to the loved ones he or she left behind.

For those families who have a soldier who is POW/MIA, there are still many unanswered questions, which is why volunteer groups, such as Rolling Thunder, stay active and try to provide support for families who are trying to heal.

Similarly, U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones introduced a new legislation, at the beginning of December, seeking to answer those questions POW/MIA families are still asking. If the bill were to pass, it would lead to the de-classification of specific documents that would grant military families information into the “last moments of their loved ones lives.”

Congressman Jones is also attempting to work with the Senate to introduce similar legislation in the upcoming year of 2012. He is hopeful the Department of Defense will see fit to give these families the peace of mind they deserve.
