After a series of public outreach hearings, public comment on an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, and comments received from the Social Security and Disability Determination Services (DDS), and the counsel of medical and scientific experts, the Social Security Administration finally released a preliminary list of 25 rare diseases and 25 cancers that would render a claimant eligible to receive a "compassionate allowance."
When a claimant's condition meets the compassionate allowance criteria, the Social Security will take the appropriate measures to render a decision on their disability claim quickly and based on objective medical evidence.
