FICA’s Role in Your Social Security Disability Insurance Claim

Federal Insurance Contributions Act, or FICA, taxes protect you with Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD insurance). If you earn a periodic paycheck, you designate the federal government to withhold part of your pay in a FICA account. This is the money that is due to you upon retirement or early disability from work.

When you fall ill, are physically maimed, or suffer from a mental condition that prevents you from working for more than a year, you can draw SSD insurance benefits from the Social Security Administration. Anyone who has worked and paid taxes for five out of ten years may be eligible.
