In an effort to speed up the disability compensation claims process, the VA recently launched a streamlined application process they call "Benefits Delivery at Discharge". The program allows service members to
file a disability compensation claim or receive a thorough examination prior to being discharged. But does the program really "deliver"? The investigative arm of Congress, the Government Accountability Office, suggests otherwise.
The GAO recently looked into the operation and found that the VA needs to refine the process. The GAO discovered issues with the way claims are being developed. They believe that local VA personnel may be
rating the claimant's disability prematurely and that is cause for concern because a rating determines the amount of the award. Promoting the BDD program is another issue the GAO would like the VA to address - the word must get out to the soldiers.
