Florida Disabled Veteran Striving to Qualify for 2012 Warrior Games

Cpl. Brian King of Auburndale, FL is one of 30 disabled veterans training at the University of Texas-El Paso for a shot at showing off his marksmanship skills in the 2012 Warrior Games. According to Newschief.com, he is currently stationed at the Warrior Transition Battalion in Fort Knox, KY since he was injured and is working on qualifying for a spot on the U.S. Army shooting team.

King recently started his marksmanship training, which is the first of 3 sessions being conducted in El Paso. These training sessions are being supported by volunteers from Ft. Bliss, as well as the university and the local community.

The Warrior Games are an annual event similar to the Olympics; injured service members and disabled veterans can represent their military branch in a number of paralympic sports competitions. The 7 events being held include the following:
  • archery;
  • cycling;
  • shooting;
  • sitting volleyball;
  • swimming;
  • track and field; and
  • wheelchair basketball.
There will be more than 200 disabled veterans and injured service members representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps., Coast Guard, and Special Operations at the Warrior Games. The event will take place from April 30 to May 5 in Colorado Springs, CO.
