Florida Veterans Getting Medical Center and Memorial Park

June 2, 2010 - The City of Orlando will receive a new park within the next 2 years. Officials from the Orlando Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) publicized their plans for the construction of a new Veterans Memorial Park and even revealed a new 3-D mock-up of the entire development. The park will exist at the Lake Nona campus.

The Central Florida Veterans Memorial Park Foundation, Inc. will be constructing the park next to, and to the south of, the brand new VA Medical Center at Lake Nona. The park is being built in the honor of roughly 1,100 veterans hailing from the following counties:

  • Orange;
  • Lake;
  • Brevard;
  • Osceola;
  • Seminole; and
  • Volusia.

 In Southeast Orange County there is a 65-acre campus. This campus will be the site of the new Orlando VA Medical Center once it opens in the fall of 2012. Once completed, the medical center will include 1.2 million square feet and will come with a $665 million price tag. The VA is spending that amount of money in order to get the best medical care for Florida veterans. The facility will include:

  • A multi-specialty outpatient clinic;
  • 134 inpatient beds;
  • 120 community living center beds;
  • A 60 bed domiciliary;
  • Administrative services; and
  • Support services.

 The VA will share the 65 acre lot with other medical and research centers. The Memorial Park will be a nice addition to what is promising to be a very needed and proficient medical center.
