Frequency of Diabetes Diagnosed in the U.S.

According to a report in Health News, every 17 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with diabetes. With November being Diabetes Awareness Month, all are being reminded of how life-changing this condition can be, with it being severe enough that it could lead to disability. You may then qualify for Social Security disability benefits.

Diabetes kills more people worldwide than AIDS and breast cancer combined.
It is at its deadliest when it hasn't been properly diagnosed or treated and with estimates indicating that 79 million people are at risk, more education is necessary.

There is no specific known cause for diabetes; however, there are risk factors, which are treatable. They include obesity, inactive lifestyle and low thyroid levels.

Some of the complications of diabetes include:

  • amputation of leg(s);
  • kidney damage;
  • heart disease; and
  • blindness

The American Diabetes Association even offers a free online test, in which you can learn if you are at risk of developing pre-diabetes or diabetes.

If you have been diagnosed with any type of severe health condition that has resulted in you being unable to function on a daily basis, then you may be entitled to Social Security disability benefits. The process can be complex and time-consuming, so you may wish to speak with a Miami Gardens Social Security disability lawyer for help.
