Frequent False Positive Scares for Lung Cancer

In a report from the New York Times, the results of a study published online, in the New England Journal of Medicine, shows that high rates of false positive scares occur for those getting screened for lung cancer. While you are facing treatment and recovery for a severe medical condition, you may be entitled to receive long-term disability benefits.

In the fall of 2010, federal health officials announced that death from lung cancer could be reduced by 20% if patients underwent CT scans, as opposed to chest x-rays.

However, they recently discovered that while there are obvious benefits to this, the downside is that nearly 1 in 4 CT scans indicate an abnormality
that in many cases turns out to be nothing. Almost 40% of patients who underwent a CT scan experienced a false-positive scare.

CT scans are also more costly and have a higher exposure of radiation. This has led some experts to say that there should be a better method in determining which patients would benefit the most from a CT scan.

If you have questions concerning eligibility for disability benefits, then you should immediately consult with a Fort Lauderdale long-term disability attorney. An attorney can also assist you with filing your claim or appealing a claim that has been denied.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
