Glaucoma May Be Detected Earlier with Frequent Testing

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness and, according to a report from Medline, it may be detected earlier with frequent testing. If you have been diagnosed with a severe health condition that will not allow for you to continue working, then you could be entitled to receive Social Security disability benefits.

Detecting glaucoma in its earliest stages allows for immediate, aggressive treatment of the eye disease. Researchers find that rather than being tested once-a-year, at least twice-a-year would be more beneficial.

This was found after a study involving 381 patients with glaucoma, who were followed anywhere between 3 and 13 years. Those who had more visual field tests (median of 20) were more likely to have glaucoma detected in comparison to those who had fewer tests (median of 12).

There are treatments available to stop the progression of glaucoma including microsurgery, topical medications, and laser therapy;
however, left untreated, it can lead to blindness.

When you have been diagnosed with a medical condition that limits your ability to function on a daily basis and you are no longer able to work, then you could be entitled to receive disability benefits. You should consult with a South Florida Social Security lawyer to discuss eligibility.
